This is the third installment of Sasha Lord s Wild series I ve read the two previous books The first one, Under a Wild Sky, started out really great but went downhill somewhere in the middle I gave it three stars The second book, In a Wild Wood, was great It deserved four stars Now, the third installment, Across a Wild Sea , just sucked I didn t like it one bit The thought of abandoning reading it altogether entered my mind pretty early Around page 40 But I wanted to give it a chanc This is the third installment of Sasha Lord s Wild series I ve read the two previous books The first one, Under a Wild Sky, started out really great but went downhill somewhere in the middle I gave it three stars The second book, In a Wild Wood, was great It deserved four stars Now, the third installment, Across a Wild Sea , just sucked I didn t like it one bit The thought of abandoning reading it altogether entered my mind pretty early Around page 40 But I wanted to give it a chance so I fought on to no avail I made it until page 164 where I finally gave up and skimmed the rest Our hero is Xanthier O Bannon He is the villain of the last book and therefore not a nice man He now is commodore of a fleet, marauding and obtaining treasures for the king One night in a violent storm, his ship sinks and Xanthier, injured and exhausted, barely manages to reach dry land of a nearby island. On this island our heroine Alannah has lived almost all her life together with an old woman she calls grandmother Alannah is a blind girl but she has a mysterious ability to sense her surroundings One morning she takes a walk on the beach when she hears someone groaning She goes to investigate and finds a person lying unconscious on the beach Since she s blind she feels the body of that person a male one with her hands Everywhere When she touches a certain part of his body he comes awake and throws himself on top of her Truly nothing can tame Xanthier s sex drive, no exhaustion, no pain, no shock, no disorientation Both feel instantly drawn to each other They have sex pretty early in the book It takes Xanthier weeks to realize that she s blind I mean seriously, Xanthier She s always with her cane and never looks you directly in the eye Well, that last bit he misinterprets as her being repulsed by his horrible facial scars The first part of the book deals with Xanthier and Alannah living on her island Grandmother died a few weeks after Xanthier s arrival and now it s just him and her and a herd of wild horses During those months they fall in love with each other and have a lot of sex I had some problems understanding all of that I mean I couldn t see what they found in each other Why and when did they fall in love I needed some scenes where they really got to know each other More scenes that displayed the character developementcomprehensible I felt no connection between Xanthier and Alannah, no closeness As I said, they almost immediately started having sex It was all pretty unbelievable to me.The second part is about Xanthier kidnapping Alannah from her island to bring her and her wild stallion to Scotland That was the part where I stopped reading It was all just too ridiculous The trashyness wasn t even funny, or else I would have had at least some fun The dialogues were so cheesy and bad No one talks like that There were no real conversations just a lot of misunderstandings, quarrels, and then sex view spoiler One sex scene started on Alannah s stallion and ended with her lying on it and Xanthier standing next to the horse, pleasuring Alannah with his mouth I find those sex scenes on and near horses really strange WTF hide spoiler The last part is about a horse race This was evenridiculous First I just can t believe that a wild, untamed horse that, just a few weeks earlier, used to live on an island with no human contact aside from Alannah, her grandmother and Xanthier will be able to participate in such an event It will balk and bolt Second, I can t believe that our blind girl Alannah herself could ride in the race Even when she rode the race course four times to get to know it, it wouldn t change one bit It was just too much for me The writing style itself is also too overblown, too turgid I think I don t want to read the remaining three parts of this series any longer This book sucked The characters were horrible and the writing was ridiculous The way the characters spoke just sounded so cheesy Definitely don t recommend. Shipwrecked in a bad storm, the hero finds himself stranded on an island populated with only horses and the heroine and her grandmother The heroine is blind and has developed a magical talent that allows her to feel the life force of creatures around her She s independent, self sufficient but na ve Also, she s only sixteen years old I know that this fact will put some people off but keep in mind it s an historical romance Also this is not a young adult novel either When her grandmother die Shipwrecked in a bad storm, the hero finds himself stranded on an island populated with only horses and the heroine and her grandmother The heroine is blind and has developed a magical talent that allows her to feel the life force of creatures around her She s independent, self sufficient but na ve Also, she s only sixteen years old I know that this fact will put some people off but keep in mind it s an historical romance Also this is not a young adult novel either When her grandmother dies, the hero is forced to kidnap her in a bid to keep her safe while he tries to gain the island legally from the King I think he did have the best intentions when he did this but it really did screw everything up He s a man of his times, so he can t comprehend that a woman is able to survive without a male s protection But the heroine has been raised on an island with only her elderly grandmother so she s perfectly able to protect herself In kidnapping her, the hero loses her love and it takes sometime for hero to forgive him On top of that, the KING who truly is a royal asshole denies his plea for the island and instead offers it up as a prize in a horse race The hero went from being a sort of nice guy, albeit selfish and close minded, to being hated by the woman he loves In was a lovely book with very in depth characters who you both love and dislike equally throughout the book You will hate the hero when he takes the heroine from her home against her will, but you ll love him in his attempt to win her back Just enough to make it a paranormal ish book but defiantlyhistorical romance than anything
