Highly recommended in the Waldorf Grades circles, and extremely hard to get Although it fit into our Norse block, I can t say it was entirely appropriate at times I am not sure that I will be using it again with my younger two. This is a children s book last I checked it s out of print but I really enjoyed it Easy to read, but I still found it entertaining It s a great introduction to the Kalevala written in story form rather than in poetry. Synge s prose retelling of The Kalevala, Elias Lonnrot s epic compilation of Finland s mythology, is perhaps stronger than the source material Synge explores the power of the word, literal anthropomorphism, and the underlying concept of origin at a much deeper level than was present in Lonnrot s Kalevala Story, history, human, hero, and nature are corded together into one fantastic yarn This is a lost world where word, story, and song have an immense power that is absent today Reading it, so Synge s prose retelling of The Kalevala, Elias Lonnrot s epic compilation of Finland s mythology, is perhaps stronger than the source material Synge explores the power of the word, literal anthropomorphism, and the underlying concept of origin at a much deeper level than was present in Lonnrot s Kalevala Story, history, human, hero, and nature are corded together into one fantastic yarn This is a lost world where word, story, and song have an immense power that is absent today Reading it, some of that power returns This is one of those books where I piggybacked a patron s ILL because it looked interesting and I am glad to say I was correct.A children s version of Finnish folk tales these are your standard heroes tales, but are different enough from the familiar and have a unique perspective. Not having read the original I can t come to that, but Synge s simple style keeps the tales interesting and easy to read.unfortunately this is out of print and hard to find, but well worth a quick read I d you can get y This is one of those books where I piggybacked a patron s ILL because it looked interesting and I am glad to say I was correct.A children s version of Finnish folk tales these are your standard heroes tales, but are different enough from the familiar and have a unique perspective. Not having read the original I can t come to that, but Synge s simple style keeps the tales interesting and easy to read.unfortunately this is out of print and hard to find, but well worth a quick read I d you can get your hands on it |Kindle ☨ Land of Heroes: A Retelling of the Kalevala ⚖ Retells, from the Kalevala, the adventures of three Finnish heroes who are rivals for the hand of the Maiden of Pohja
