LOVE to hate me a bad guy girl who plays their part so well. There is romance, there are twists, there is passion, their is history of their past lives that impact their current day lives and that just adds to the complexity of all of the relationships within the story [ Epub ] ♴ The Runaway Bridegroom ♫ THIS EDITION HAS BEEN SCRAPPED AND A NEW EDITION HAS BEEN PUBLISHED BY WestlandBooks Looking for given an ARC for an honest review, and I m glad about it because I feel in love with this story. The story starts with a real shocker and those are the best ways to catch the reader The casual way in which the child marriage was handled by the people involved left me with an uneasy feel Looking for a book that entertains and makes you think, that is a great romance and yet deals with controversies Then The Runaway Bridegroom by Sundari Venkatraman might well be the right choice for you I was given an ARC for an honest review, and I m glad about it because I feel in love with this story. The story starts with a real shocker and those are the best ways to catch the reader The casual way in which the child marriage was handled by the people involved left me with an uneasy feeling As if the marriage alone wasn t shocking enough, the young groom Veerendra runs away and is lost to his family The even younger bride s Chanda family can t live with the shame and moves to the big city of Delhi to start anew Fast forward 14 years, and we are introduced to the then child bride and now student Chanda She makes for a wonderful heroine, shy yet intelligent, innocent yet eager to learn When she meets dashing Ranveer and is hired as an intern at his IT company, two worlds collide I totally fell for the hero along with Chanda, he s just so gorgeous And the difference in their characters makes for interesting dilemmas He smodern with an almost foreign approach to things, he isn t a family person, and he is hugely successful in his business His experience, his confidence and his suave manners contrast with Chanda s behaviour The chemistry between them is sizzling, their interactions are full of emotions, and the steamy scenes are beautifully written Chanda s family want to marry her off, but when they consult an astrologer, the past bullies its way into the present Instead of finding a new bridegroom for their daughter, the parents have to chase the old groom whose life is supposed to be inextricably mixed with Chanda s I immensely enjoyed all the twists in this.So much for the love story Now enter complications left, right and center, and you have a tantalizing mix like that spicy masala snack Indians and Sri Lankans love to munch.I found it a wonderful touch that the author chose to give Chanda such a big family full of caring brothers Each of them and the parents are very well fleshed out and enhance the plot Talking about secondary characters, let s not forget Shikla, working at Ranveer s office and wanting a piece of the Ranveer cake I loved hating her, she was the ideal villain She plays an important role in the story and adds zing to the read.Of course I have to mention the astrologer and his magical touch Ever since I came to Sri Lanka from almost 20 years in Germany, I ve been confronted with astrology and its utmost important in society, and I know India is much the same Personally, I m a huge skeptic, but it was intriguing to see how astrology was woven into the story A very neat move that had me shout and gasp and laugh at times There s so muchto praise Take Venkatraman s effortlessly flowing prose style, and her way of making each scene and character come alive Once again, I was reminded of a movie or drama on television I haven t read all of the author s books yet I will, mark my words but out of what I have read, this one is her best I was hugely entertained by this book, but The Runaway Bridegroom also made me very thoughtful How tragic that child marriage is still so common How magical that two people who are destined to be together somehow find a way Non review RantThis is part of my read the same author spree This is the third book by Sundari, that I read during the readathon Plot Review Plot The story very real social issue It is disquieting to know that even at this day and age, rituals such as these exist. The story about Veerendra and Chanda begins with a shocker A cruel reality hits the reader, in quite a different way, as it does to the Maheshwari family While they are reeling under the revelation that their daughter s husband has escaped, the reader s are bewildered that a solemn ceremony that brings two matured adult hearts together could even take place when it was time to live in carefree wonderment.Soon after the incident, Chanda s father moves the family to Jaipur to start their lives once again Moving on, the Maheshwaris do well for themselves, the business flourishes and the children get good education Chanda moves to Delhi for her management studies It is during one of the guest lectures that she gets eye locked with Ranveer for a split second and feels her pulse racing All this while when all her other friends were living their lives, footloose and fancyfree, Chanda kept herself away from all of it Despite the long years, her education and change if place, Chanda could not forget her past.To Sundari s credit, she compliments the light reading by weaving in how our psyche works when there has been a dark even in the past thus accentuating the enormity of the matter While the other students can go about living their lives, Chanda harbors a guilt in some corner of her mind A guilt that she is not responsible for, a crime that she has not committed a transgression that she was not a part and neither did she understand the full meaning of it at that time Sundari portrays perfectly that the past never gets obliterated, you can try to escape from it and change your perspective but it will find a way to catch up with you.Nevertheless, delving and facing your past might not be such a bad idea either When Chanda starts working in Ranveer s software company, she is mesmerized by his charisma and is almost in awe of his confidence and affable nature Ranveer too is smitten by Chanda and is inexorably attracted to her ignoring the all the alluring moves of his secretary But fate has better plans for them Chanda is soon called back home to meet her father in law and bring home the errant husband who her parents are sure is somewhere around waiting to be with Chanda, as the astrologer prophesied. In the mean time Ranveer too is upset with the absence of Chanda and heads back home that he had left many years back His loving family is overjoyed to see him and forgives him for his mistake as a child With a fantastic twist in the end, the two souls reunite, restoring the readers faith on destiny once again.Sundari has wonderfully penned down a moving love story with twists and turns The language and flow of the story is perfect and despite being a rom com it also leaves us with something to think by highlighting social evils that only brings inheartaches and inconvenience us Also, and very importantly, the fact that if its fated it will happen Sundari Venkatraman creates simple, down to earth, female leads Sunita Rishi, who became The Malhotra Bride was gorgeous and shy just to urge those who haven t read it TMB is my favorite from Sundari s stable The Runaway Bridegroom starts with a child marriage The book is not a sermon on the rights or wrongs of child marriage Instead, one gets a close look at the kind of culture that perpetuates it, and gets a sense of why it still pervades our country Both the bride and the groom Sundari Venkatraman creates simple, down to earth, female leads Sunita Rishi, who became even though they are not together, and even after they have grown up and gotten themselves an education continue to respect the religious union, showing how deep rooted the malaise is The author has exploited it to create a sweet romance and I cannot find any fault with that.Sundari creates a lovely female lead, Chanda Maheshwari, who is demure, preferring not to succumb to the charms of any of the several men she meets but by no means is she timid Far from it, she goes bravely through life after being jilted by her husband of a few minutes It helps that she has a very supportive family Ranveer Singh is portrayed as conflicted but caring Happily, he is not a pushover, standing up quite nicely for himself on several occasions when anybody tries to bulldoze him.The story revolves around strong family bonds and the primary and secondary characters all have great morals and values except the villainess of the piece yes, there is one Just to keep the story from getting too cloying, Sundari has inserted a wicked witch who will stop at nothing to get what she wants Does she succeed or does she get her comeuppance Does the runaway bridegroom return Read the book to find out There is also a bit for those who like romance stories to be a little spiced up Ha I am not telling Go read for yourself
